Tango dancers strut their stuff with flamboyant twirls and dips as the highly competitive Tango World Championships kicks off in Buenos Aires.
Tango fever has taken hold of Buenos Aires.
The 2012 World Tango Championships started in the Argentine capital with performances by pros and former champions.
The dance's international popularity has stepped up in recent years and thousands of tourists and past winners like Ivan Romero and Silvana Nunez flock to the city for the "stage" and "salon" competitions.
Silvana Nunez, tango dancer, saying :
"Each year it gets bigger. It's good for people to know that in Argentina there is a world championship of tango so they'll come and see the dancers; old ones, new ones and those who want to be [tango dancers]."
Ivan Romero, tango dancer, saying :
"A lot of time has passed. And after 10 years it's still this great party that attracts many from abroad and it's become a massive event, I love it."
The much-anticipated finals of the contest will take place on August 28th.
